Rationale

The number of children entering OOHC directly drives the number of children in OOHC. Reducing entries while maintaining child safety reflects best practice and potentially measures the performance of the the child protection system.

The Aboriginal-led Data Sharing: Child Protection and Out-of-home Care Statistics disaggregates by District, Aboriginality, Number of placements, Placement type and Aboriginality of caregiver. 

Comments

This includes children and young people re-entering care during the quarter and those entering care for the first time ever.

Data ageing:

  • Data ageing is two months, unless otherwise indicated. Therefore, the data for this indicator will be available two months after the end of the month in which the data first becomes available.
