Definition

IFP is designed to work with families in crisis, whose children are at risk of removal and placement in OOHC. The program is delivered by non-government service providers who work in partnership with families to preserve family structure and strengthen functioning.


An IFP service intervention typically consists of intensive casework for three months, supported with 24-hour on call assistance followed by a ‘stepped-down’ phase of

Children and young people (CYP) are eligible for a referral to IFP services from birth to age 18. Eligibility criteria are as follows:

  •  At least one parent or carer is willing and able to work with the IFP service to achieve agreed case plan goals,
  • Key CYPs aged from 14 to 18 are willing to participate in the service,
  • The family has strengths, resources, and/or support that can be used to improve the child(ren)’s safety and parenting capacity, and
  • Intensive support is needed to address the family issue that places the child at ROSH.
