    Out-of-Home Care
Out-of-home care is provided to children and young people who are unable to live with their own families. Foster carers take on the responsibilities of a parent for a period of time, to provide a safe family environment for children and young people needing care. Children and young people may be placed in out-of-home care for many reasons.  Care is usually provided by foster carers but can also be in residential care homes and sometimes other arrangements. All of this care is called out-of-home care and is regulated by the Office of the Children's Guardian. We have standards of care that agencies providing or supervising care are required to meet.  The standards include that children remain connected to significant people and places in their lives.
    Earlier Intervention
Early intervention refers to activities, programs and services designed to support families who show signs of needing support or vulnerabilities that may escalate into child abuse or neglect. Early interventions provide families with resources and skills designed to interrupt the growth of emerging problems, and encourage positive child development. The Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) program, funded by DCJ, aims to deliver flexible support to children, young people, families and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability. Family Connect and Support - links vulnerable children, young people and families who are in need of assistance with the most appropriate and available local support services.
    Family preservation
Family preservation services are aimed at supporting families with children who have been reported at risk of significant harm (ROSH) or are at imminent risk of entering out-of-home-care (OOHC). Family preservation services are an important earlier intervention option for vulnerable children who need targeted support to remain safely at home with their families.
