Definition

A valuable action; deed; or effort taken to respond to a need or fulfil a demand. AIHW's National Classification of Community Services (Vers. 2) defines a service as "a process of assistance in response to a need".

Comments

A service is an "intangible product" and no transfer of ownership or possession takes place when a service is provided or sold. A service cannot be stored or transported; is instantly perishable; and comes into existence at the time it is provided or sold.
