NSW Department of Education

The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) Metric Library will be the authoritative source of information on how the NSW Department of Education measures their most important metrics. By creating a single source of truth, that is stored in a common area, the NSW Department of Education increases the consistency of these calculations and reduces the need for staff across the department to re-prosecute or re-engineer metrics.

The CESE Data Reform team is responsible for developing metadata definitions to the ISO 11179 standard for the metrics. Where possible, metadata for priority data sets will also be developed. The team consults with subject matter experts, business areas, and Executive Directors for final approval ahead of Statistical Standards Committee endorsement. Once endorsed, the definitions are published in Metadata.NSW (the metadata registry) for departmental access. Where appropriate, the definitions will be made available to the public in line with the NSW Open Data Policy. Data Reform will maintain the registry with current, endorsed metrics.
