Concept help - Property Group

A property group is a collection that gather sets of related Properties to aid discovery and navigation.

A property group is a collection of Properties that gather sets of related characteristics. For example, the properties of Hair colour and Height for an unknown model - [[ObjectClass]] of Person could be grouped together under a Identifying features property group.

Property Groups assist with discovery and interpretation of ontologies and data by providing a simple hierarchy for the navigation.

Tips for creating Property Groups

A Property Group should define clearly what types of properties it describes and groups.

For example, a definition for Identifying characteristics

property group could be "The non-changable attributes and features about a person that can be used for determining a person from a group of others". This definition helps third parties know that this could include a persons height or eye colour, but not age as their age changes over time.

Properties groups can be used to create "folksonomies" by setting the "allow attachments" attribute on the property group to allow all users, or only properties owned by the same stewardship organisation as each property to attach to the group.

When set up in this way users editing a property will be able to set a property group, and the property group will be saved at the end of the group's list of properties to allow for categorisation by Property Group editors.
